Xanthan Gum in China

xanthangum Xanthan gum is a key ingredient in many gluten-free recipes. I have not seen xanthan gum sold in any stores in Shanghai, but you can order them on Taobao. Taobao is like Amazon.com and eBay where you can find/buy almost anything from sellers/resellers and have items delivered to you.

Xanthan gum in Chinese is called 黄原胶 (huang2 yuan2 jiao1). I order my xanthan gum from this seller. One 1kg bag is 38RMB + 5RMB shipping. That’s less than $7USD for a bag that will last for a LONG TIME since most gluten-free recipes use about 1 tsp of xanthan gum per cup of gluten-free flour.

I live in Shanghai and am new to a gluten free diet. I’m wondering if there is any support group in Shanghai. I think it would be immensely helpful.
