cracker.jpgLast week, my husband and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise trip to Japan and Korea. We found some gluten-free rice crackers at the cruise gift shop. The brand name is Feng Shui and these rice crackers come in different variety — Nori seaweed, Maki rolls, and Wasabi rice crackers. Without hesitation, we bought a bag to try. They were sold for $3.99 USD. The rice crackers were really good! Gluten-free AND MSG free!

Ingredients: Rice, Naturally Fermented Soy Sauce (Soybean, Salt, No Gluten), Sugar, Tapioca Starch, Natural Paprika Color and Seaweed.

I’ve never heard of the Feng Shui brand before, not to mention ever seeing gluten-free Japanese-style rice crackers before! I checked the labels to see where the rice crackers were made. The manufacture name is Roland Foods and the rice crackers are made in China, but distributed exclusively to the U.S. How disappointing! I went to their website and emailed customer service to inquire where I can find these rice crackers. They directed me to Asia Foods, an online store based in New Jersey. I found these crackers for $2.99 USD and orders over $75 USD receive free shipping.

I guess I won’t be seeing these rice crackers again for a while, despite the fact that they are made here in China. Next time I visit the U.S., I’ll make sure to order boxes of these snacks to bring back. Better yet, I will contact Asia Foods to see if they will ship wholesale to China. I’ll also ask a few organic and import stores in Shanghai to see if they could stock these rice crackers.
