Thank you for your post. I have recently been diagnosed with Celiac's and am am being expatriated to Shanghai this Christmas.

Your post confirms what I saw on our house-hunting trip. I visited the CityShop and Carrefour and saw the prices and limited options. Thank you for the links to help read labels. I have not yet learned Mandarin. The links with chinese ingredients will be helpful. This post was from 2 years ago, have you had any updates in the last two years. Have you had any experience with IE's that cook? If you have one, does she understand the dangers and help with finding suitable foods? Can you get an import exemption to bring gluten-free products with your home belongings?

Ironically, our chinese counterparts, who do not know that I have Celiac's, have assigned us Chinese surnames that mean "wheat".

Hello. I was recently diagnosed with Celiac's and just moved to Nanjing. I'm finding it very difficult to live here and would certainly appreciate any advice you or others may have about buying food in grocery stores, markets, etc.
I'm a student living in a dorm-type situation so my access to kitchen and cooking is somewhat limited.
Any brands (Chinese) that you've discovered that are gluten-free, even at stores like Carrefour?
My staple at this point has been peanut butter....

Thank you!!!

Hi. First of all, we share a name. I never knew you existed until I was searching for GF advice in Shanghai. I am currently visiting Shanghai and wonder if you can give me any recomendations for restraunts where I can safely eat gluten free. I am finding it very challanging here. I am here for another week and a half then go elsewhere in China. I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Thanks! Carol
