Welcome to Simply Gluten-Free!

My name is Susan and I live in Shanghai, China. I’m one of the lucky few people who does not have any food allergies. My husband on the other hand has a really long list of food allergies (see complete list below). While food allergies are prevalent in the U.S. and other developed countries, China doesn’t seem to have anyone who understands the question “Are there any (fill in the blank) in there, because I’m allergic to it.” It’s been quite a challenge finding restaurants and dishes that my husband can eat. Even the most innocent dishes are contaminated with allergen ingredients. Thankfully none of his allergies are life threatening.

This blog is about allergy-related topics from our personal experience. Even though I’m not the one with the food allergies, living with one has made me more aware and sensitive to issues related to allergies, diet, and health. I’ll be sharing recipes and tips on healthy gluten-free living as well as other allergy-related issues.
