A Long Absence Plus the VitaMix
Wow, it’s been almost two months since I lasted posted on this blog. Sorry for the long absence. Working full-time and preparing gluten-free meals every day has become such a chore that we hired a housekeeper, we call them "ahyis" in China, to help us with daily meals. Our ahyi cooks dinner and packs our lunch every day. I’ve trained her to prepare gluten-free meals and since then, I haven’t spent much time in the kitchen! That’s why I haven’t been experimenting with recipes and posting them on this blog.
Well, this month, our ahyi went home to Sichuan province for a month. I’m back in the kitchen cooking and experimenting with gluten-free meals. And this time, with the VitaMix!
Recently, I purchased a VitaMix and it’s a miracle machine! I’ve been wanting a VitaMix for a long time but they are hard to find in China. I haven’t seen them anywhere and I couldn’t just buy a U.S. VitaMix because the power voltage is different here in China. I contacted the Asia sales office and they shipped one from Hong Kong to me. The price is exorbitantly high (double the U.S. price) but it’s definitely worth it, a must-have for people with lots of food allergies.
We use the Vitamix to grind our own flour for gluten-free baking. I also use it to make smoothies, drinks, and soup. I’m still experimenting with the VitaMix so I hope to start posting a few recipes on this blog.
