Simply Gluten-Free

A blog about allergies, health, and eating a gluten-free diet in Shanghai, China

Just Another Gluten-Free Blog

It was only earlier this week that I had the idea to start this Simply Gluten-Free blog. My husband is allergic to wheat among many other allergies. Since we live in China, we have limited access to organic and specialty stores that carry gluten-free products. People in China are just not very sensitive to people with allergies. Every time we go out to eat, we have to explain to the waiters/waitresses and everybody else around the table why we can’t have starch or soy sauce or (fill in the blank) in the dishes. And then we’d receive this puzzled look, which leads to a lengthy explanation and sharing of how we manage in a country where 99.9% of the food has either wheat flour, modified food starch, or soy sauce (contains wheat).

This is why I started this blog. If I were to dictate every conversation regarding my husband’s allergies into blog posts, I’d probably win the award for being the most prolific blogger.

Anyway, so after I setup this new blog, I started searching for other gluten-free and allergy related blogs. Boy, was I surprised to find a bunch of people out there who have a lot to share about their gluten-free diet and experiences.

I’ve added several of them to my blogroll. If you have a gluten-free or allergy-related blog, let me know! I’d love to hear and learn from your experiences!

    Hi Susan,

Welcome to gluten free blogging! I’m sure that living in China must add an extra level (if not more) of challenge to buying gluten free foods or dining out in restaurants. I wish you the very best of luck. Please use me as a resource for any of your questions, needs, etc. Good luck!

    Ellen
